Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) coined the expanded concept of art, according to which every person is an artist. This concept of art is not limited to the materially tangible artefact, but refers in particular to the creativity of people who, working together, could produce a "social art" ("social sculpture") that shapes the world and society.

This idea is being taken forward by the Free International Art Academy – Nordische Kunstakademie.

In the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a free interdisciplinary degree programme and a postgraduate course in the fine arts are to be offered.

The curriculum is taught by artists from the international art scene in an intensive master-student exchange programme - either in temporary workshops or in residencies of three to six weeks.

Lecturers and professors from established art schools and academies can organise their own block seminars and residencies with their classes.

It is conceivable that, in addition to the postgraduate programme, an undergraduate fine arts course with a broad range of subjects will be established in the future, offering a comprehensive artistic and academic qualification.

The Nordic Academy of Fine Arts is under the the patronage of the internationally renowned artist Prof. Günther Uecker.

"de DROM e.V." (Society for the Promotion of Culture, Education and Community) is founder of the Nordic Art Academy.

Hidden, abandoned, concealed, forgotten, rediscovered places in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern can be satellites of the Nordic Art Academy. Teaching rooms, workshops, studios and accommodation for the Academy can be created, for example, in the former railway station building, in the old school, in the abandoned factory or in the old manor house and revitalise them.
